The U.S.-based Willo has recently announced that it launched the world’s first-ever fully automated toothbrush—AutoFlo+—for children aged five to 13.

“Getting kids to brush effectively can be a daily challenge, as they often lack the patience and technique needed for proper oral care, leading to a high prevalence of cavities in kids,” said Dr. Joel Berg, DDS, MS, and Chief Dental Officer at Willo, in a press release.

According to Willo, the AutoFlo+ provides a fully automated brushing experience from start to finish. “The Willo AutoFlo+ offers a fully integrated brushing experience. It’s a breakthrough solution to one of the biggest struggles parents face when it comes to their children’s oral hygiene,” added Dr. Berg.

Brushing history tracker

The company says the toothbrush is designed to make oral care easier and more effective. It automatically dispenses the correct amount of toothpaste and uses continuous suction to remove liquid throughout brushing. An accompanying app allows parents to monitor their child’s oral care through a brushing history tracker and set reminders. The app also features animated countdown timers and a reward system to make brushing more engaging for kids.

Willo says the AutoFlo+ has 34,000 optimally positioned bristles and features the OptiClean brush head, which it describes as clinically proven to remove seven times more plaque in hard-to-reach areas than a manual toothbrush. The device is designed to gently clean around each tooth for thorough coverage.

While the toothbrush is not yet approved by the American Dental Association (ADA), Willo says on its website it is actively working to secure endorsements from dental professionals. The company also emphasizes that the toothbrush was developed in collaboration with pediatric dentists to address key oral health challenges and meet high standards of safety and effectiveness.
