Cerebrofolate from Washington-based Methyl-Life Supplements is biochemically identical to other prescription brand L-methylfolate, according to a study from the International Journal of Biology, Pharmacy, and Allied Sciences.
Cerebrofolate is a calcium salt form of (65)-5-methyltetrahydrofolate (L-5-MTHF). According to the company, it is the predominant micronutrient form of folate that circulates in plasma and is involved in biological processes. It is also known to support healthy mood.
The independent study tested Cerebrofolate, two other brands of L-5-MTHF and an amorphous calcium salt form of L-5-MTHF. The study results are beneficial to consumers as Methyl-Life produced an over-the-counter L-methylfolate (commonly used in mood enhancers) similar in potency and stability to prescription brands while costing significantly less, the company said.
“The value for consumers is that they can buy an affordable over-the-counter product that is biochemically identical to the prescription brand,” said Methyl-Life Founder Jamie Hope. “The results of this study are a big win for affordability and access.”
