We all want to be the biggest and strongest we can be. When it comes to getting into shape and working out, there are a lot of factors that go into it. Diet, training, and even supplementation play a part in how you look and perform. So, when it comes to improving our performance and getting the most out of every gym hit, it’s no surprise that we look for products to get us in the zone. That’s where pre workouts like Mesomorph come into play. In this post, we’ll be covering Mesomorph pre workout today, formula revisions, reviews, and what compares!
What Is Mesomorph:
Mesomorph Pre Workout has held the crown for being one of the top pre workouts since it was first introduced to the fitness world around 2013. If you’ve been a fan of the OG Mesomorph and have continued to show its loyalty throughout the years, you know it’s had a bunch of revisions since then. And yet even through all the new looks and new formulas, the King of pre workouts has held its reign strong.
The Original Mesomorph:
Even in the beginning, Mesomorph wasn’t a pre workout for beginners. Despite being a proprietary blend, the formula brought full, clinical dosages of its ingredients. Which supported a potent delivery of the energy, focus, and pump complexes Mesomorph is known for. Below we have the original Mesomorph supplement facts.
Here you can see the classic three complexes in Mesomorph:
- Synthenox-Carnosine/Nitric Oxide Complex
- Mesoswell-Cell Volumizing ATP Matrix
- Neuromorph-Neuro Energized Stimulant Matrix
All these complexes add together for a total of 12,870mg of active ingredients divided into 14 ingredients. Interestingly, the formula for Mesomorph doesn’t change significantly despite changing several times. In fact, the only complex that changes is the last one! This means both the Nitric Oxide Complex and Cell Volumizing Matrix have remained untouched since 2013!
Synthenox-Carnosine/Nitric Oxide Complex:
Now that we know this complex was able to stand the test of time, it’s time to go through the ingredients. In this blend of 6,500mg, there are three ingredients:
- Beta Alanine
- L-Citrulline DL-Malate
- Arginine Alpha Ketoglutarate (AAKG)
This complex is going to focus on promoting endurance and blood flow. (1,2,3)
Mesoswell-Cell Volumizing ATP Matrix:
In the next blend of 4,500mg, there are six ingredients:
- Di-Creatine Malate
- L-Taurine
- Creatine Nitrate
- Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C)
- Creatinol-O-Phosphate
- Agmatine Sulfate
The majority of these ingredients support hydration for your muscle cells and reduce muscle fatigue. This helps create a fuller look for your muscles while also boosting ATP and recovery. Adding vitamin C can reduce cortisol levels allowing for longer-lasting workouts and decreased soreness. (4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11)
Neuromorph-Neuro Energized Stimulant Matrix:
In this last blend, there were 1,870mg of active ingredients, which consisted of:
- Glucuronolactone
- Methylxanthine Anhydrous (Caffeine)
- 3,7-dihydro-3,7-dimethyl-1H-purine-2,6-dione (Theobromine)
- Naringin (fruit)
- Geranaburn™ (DMAA)
This last blend is where you’ll find stimulants and focus-oriented ingredients like Caffeine and DMAA. (12,13,14,15,16)
Mesomorph In 2020:
Before we get to the current version of Mesomorph, let’s go over changes from the OG to the version available in 2020, Mesomorph V3. This version of Mesomorph pre workout had 1860 mg of the Neuromorph matrix. In the older formula, this matrix had 1870mg and contained 3,7-Dihydro-3,7-Dimethyl-1H-Purine-2, 6-Dione, and of course, Geranaburn or DMAA.
In the updated V3 formula, this matrix featured:
Theobromine
Starting from the beginning of the old label, we have the ingredients 3,7-Dihydro-3,7-Dimethyl-1H-Purine-2, 6-Dione. This is actually just another name for Theobromine, so it’s technically not a change to the formula. Theobromine is a xanthine alkaloid that is used as a bronchodilator and as a vasodilator derived from Theobroma, the genus of the cacao tree.
It is the primary alkaloid found in cocoa and chocolate and is one of the causes of chocolate’s mood-elevating effects. Theobromine is closely related to caffeine. However, unlike caffeine, theobromine has an additional methyl group, making its effects last longer.
So what type of effects can you expect?
Because theobromine is similar to caffeine, you can expect an energy boost, as well as mood-boosting properties. Theobromine also has appetite-suppressant properties, which makes it a useful fat-burning ingredient. (17)
Geranaburn™
Geranaburn™ (1,3-Dimethylamylamine HCL) more commonly known as DMAA, was the main stimulant in the original mesomorph pre workout. DMAA is structurally similar to ephedrine, with the quick energy spike associated with stimulants like caffeine. DMAA helps boost dopamine and noradrenaline uptake, slowing down your workout’s re-uptake. Which helps promote intense energy while providing you with tunnel-like focus and euphoria.†
Essentially, the only ingredient that has changed from the original formula is the DMAA.
The Stimulants
The first intense stimulant shown in the updated label is Senegalia Berlandieri Extract. It’s going to promote increased energy and appetite suppression while also providing a feeling of euphoria. (18) This ingredient is becoming very popular in fat burners because of its properties. Isopropylnorsynephrine HCl is the other intense stimulant in this matrix.† It’s also known as Octopamine, another alkaloid found alongside Synephrine in Citrus Aurantium. Aside from boosting energy, octopamine promotes fat burning by inhibiting glucose uptake in fat cells (adipocytes) by blocking the beta-3 adrenoceptor. (19)
Phenylethylamine
Following Senegalia Berlandieri, we see Phenylethylamine (PEA) and its alkaloids yielded from Senegalia. PEA is also a natural stimulant our bodies produce to serve several important functions. This includes supporting the regulation of our mood. Like most stimulants, PEA produces increased mood, focus, and energy. But what makes PEA special is its euphoric feeling. As seen with theobromine, PEA can be found in natural substances like chocolate. Both Phenylethylamine and theobromine help stimulate the production of endorphins, which are commonly known as your ‘feel-good’ hormone. (20,21)
Mesomorph V3 VS V4:
In November 2020, Mesomorph pre workout had another formula revision, which is the current version (V4).
The V4 formula now contains the following:
- 2-Aminoisoheptane HCl
- Geranium Extract (stem & leaves)
- Quebracho Blanco Extract
This also resulted in the removal of Senegalia Berlandieri Extract, all the Phenylethylamine Alkaloids, and Isopropylnorsynephrine HCl.
However, the rest of the formula is the same! This includes the amounts of the proprietary blends and the other proprietary blend ingredients.
This first change is from Senegalia Berlandieri to 2-Aminoisoheptane or DMHA. This ingredient may help improve performance and increase weight loss as a stimulant. And is commonly compared to DMAA. (22) You can read more about DMHA HERE.
The next ingredient may bring you false hope if you don’t know that Geranium Oil is actually the source of DMAA. (23) Unfortunately, seeing this in the formula doesn’t mean DMAA is in the newest version of Mesomorph. Just to repeat: There is no DMAA in Mesomorph as of 2024.
So, what’s the point of this ingredient? While Geranium Extract is featured in this formula, it’s stripped of the DMAA Alkaloids. So, what’s left is a potentially similar but weaker version of this stimulant. However, we don’t have studies on the effectiveness of this extract as we do on other extracts prepared in this manner (ephedra).
The last change is the addition of Quebracho Blanco Extract, which may act as a vasodilator and aphrodisiac. (24)
What Flavors Are Available?
Below we have listed the flavors available…in order of ranking popularity.
- Rocket Pop
- Tropical Punch
- Green Apple Candy
- Pink Lemonade
- Tutti Frutti
- Snow Cone
- Strawberry Kiwi
- Grape
- Watermelon
- Carnival Cotton Candy
- Pineapple
What To Expect With Mesomorph V4?
With all these additions accounted for, Mesomorph is still going to be a strong pre workout. However, unlike in the previous formula, you most likely won’t get that surge of energy. Based on these new additions, there will be a strong focus aspect to this pre workout, as well as the mood enhancement.
The energy is still there, and we would definitely recommend you assess your tolerance before taking a full scoop. This version has more of a sustainable energy blend, meaning when you feel it, it’ll last. So far, based on our team’s experience, Mesomorph pre workout is still the King of Pre Workouts. But in 2024, customer reviews tend to be mixed. Some customers favor Mesomorph V3 with Senegalia over V4 with DMHA.
Mesomorph Reviews :

Customer Review by Albert: “Best PWO. Crazy energy, focus and pumps. Flavors are fire.” Posted on 1/12/24
Mesomorph Alternatives :
The last thing we’d want is for Mesomorph to disappear again. But if you’re here to look for a substitute for Mesomorph, we’ve got you covered.
Up first is currently our only pre workout with DMHA available, Frankenstein. Unlike Mesomorph, Frankenstein features a fully disclosed label. So you can see it features about ~15 grams of active ingredients. When compared to Mesomorph, it shares:
- L-Citrulline Malate
- Beta Alanine
- L-Taurine
- Caffeine
- DMHA
And leaves six ingredients unique to Frankenstein:
- Sodium
- Betaine Anhydrous
- L-Tyrosine
- Acetyl L-Carnitine
- Alpha GPC
- Black Pepper Extract
Most of these ingredients may support endurance and focus, while Black Pepper Extract is often used in pre workouts to improve bioavailability and overall boost the impact of the other ingredients. (25,26,27,28,29,30,31)
Frankenstein Review By Ida: “I was a huge fan of Dust X and Mesomorph but since those pre workouts aren’t available I went with this. And I am excited to say Frankenstein has filled the void perfectly! I get the same energy and pumps at the gym. Overall a great option as a replacement or to take even when the OG’s are available. I really liked the Sour Grave Worms flavor and can’t wait to try the a new flavor when this is done!” Posted on
Our next Mesomorph alternative is a high stimulant pre workout that features a DMAA-Like Stimulant, Citrus Aurantium Extract (Synephrine). Broken Arrow by Repp Sports, similarly to Mesomorph, has had several formula revisions (Read more about the original Broken Arrow Here). But in its current formula, Broken Arrow features ~14 grams of active ingredients. Of these ingredients, only five are shared with Mesomorph:
- L-Citrulline Malate
- Beta Alanine
- L-Taurine
- Caffeine
- Theobroma Cacao Extract (Theobromine)
This leaves six ingredients that are different:
- Sodium
- Betaine Anhydrous
- L-Tyrosine
- Citra-Fuze Stim Blend
- Alpha GPC
- Black Pepper Extract
Where 5 of the remaining six ingredients are identical to Frankenstein, what makes Broken Arrow unique is CitraFuze Stimulant Blend. This blend of citrus-based stimulants contains synephrine, an ingredient more common in fat burners. Synephrine is a strong stimulant with thermogenic and mood-boosting properties. In a pre workout, that can translate to enhanced focus and increased sweat/water weight loss. (32)
Broken Arrow Review By Chet: “Good energy and pumps. Great price too. Hail Storm is my favorite flavor so far, going to try Galaxy Burst next time.” Posted on
Our third comparison is pretty different from Mesomorph, but it’s all the levels of intensity we look for in the gym. Super Pump Aggression features a fully disclosed label that includes 18 grams of active ingredients. You can read more about Super Pump and Super Pump Aggression HERE.
Of these ingredients, five are shared:
- L-Citrulline
- Beta Alanine
- Agmatine Sulfate
- Caffeine Anhydrous
- Theobromine
Which leaves eight ingredients unique to Super Pump Aggression:
- Betaine Anhydrous
- L-Tyrosine
- PEA
- Choline Bitartrate
- DMAE
- Black Pepper Extract
- Rauwolfia Vomitoria Extract
- Huperzia Serrata Extract
3 of these ingredients are shared with the other alternatives; Betaine, L-Tyrosine, and Black Pepper Extract. The remaining five ingredients are going to aid in supporting Super Pump Aggression’s focus complex. (33, 34,35,36,37,38)
Super Pump Aggression Review By Hank: “I use this product when I’m doing heavy lifting because it has that Kick I need to squeeze out those last couple of reps!!” Posted on
Our last Mesomorph comparison is with another infamous OG pre workout Jack3d. Like Mesomorph, Jack3d previously featured DMAA. But Jack3d V2 now features a proprietary blend with ~4.2 grams of active ingredients per scoop and about 135mg of Caffeine per scoop. Between Mesomorph and Jack3d, six ingredients are shared:
- Arginine Alpha-Ketoglutarate
- Creatine Monohydrate
- Beta Alanine
- 2-Aminoisoheptane HCL
- Geranium Extract (stem and leaves)
- Caffeine
This leaves two ingredients unique to Jack3d:
- Yohimbe Extract
- Schisandra Chinensis
Yohimbe is a common ingredient in fat burners due to its thermogenic properties and is similar to Rauwolfia Vomitoria. Because of their similarities, they may function in the same way. This can mean promoting energy, focus, and fat loss. (37,39) Whereas Schisandra Chinensis extract may be useful as an adaptogen and performance enhancer (40, 41).
Jack3d Pre Workout Review By Tyler: “This stuff is insane. Everyone please folllow guidelines when. You take this and do not start out with the maximum dose. Geez I think half a scoop would of even been enough” Posted on
Which Should You Try?
*Notice Of Delays*
At Same Day Supplements, we currently have a limited supply of Mesomorph V3 with Senegalia and Mesomorph V4 with DMHA! But if you’re ready to try something new and are looking for a similar intensity to Mesomorph, we would recommend trying Jack3d.†
For a high-stimulant complex without DMHA, both Broken Arrow and Super Pump Aggression make good alternatives. If you’re looking for a pre workout to help give you the edge in focus, Super Pump Aggression may be a better option for you.†
