Once per month, Reset ADHD offers “Improv for ADHD” play sessions. These sessions are an opportunity to have fun and grow in your ADHD management skills. Improv is a huge part of my life, and I love sharing it with others. But, why do I love it so much? Well, there are many reasons. I will detail why it is so special to me below.
Improv allows my brain to stretch and grow in ways other activities do not offer. I can practice my short-term memory, as well as other key executive functions. By playing improv games, I am exercise the faculties of my brain, keeping me young and allowing me to even improve my brain function.
By doing improv, I have grown in confidence. My success on the stage has provided me with an opportunity to do things with which I am not comfortable, like being myself on stage. Before improv, I had always played a character on stage. When I host improv games, I am myself. I cannot hide behind a character. Audiences get to see me for who I am and how I interact with people.
Improv is a blast. I laugh. The audience laughs. It is an all-around good time. Laughter makes you feel happy. Moreover, it creates a lasting happiness. My symptoms of depression improved when improv came back into my life. Graduating college took improv away from me for a while. When I started doing improv again with Improvanopolis, my happiness and serenity returned.
I love stories, both telling them and listening to them. If I get to tell stories to other people and they enjoy it, I feel good. If I hear an interesting story, I am entertained. Both aspects of that are met in improv. The bonus aspect of improvisational story telling is that the stories are always new. There is never a repeat.
If any of the above benefits that I experience appeal to you, check out our improv play sessions. All experience levels are welcome.
