What are the preoperative examinations done before IPCL Surgery?
Your eye doctors will evaluate various measurement data of patients undergoing implantable phakic contact lens implantation such as Age (years), Refractive Power (Sph, Cyl and Axis), Keratometry, Anterior chamber depth, Central corneal thickness, White to white measurement of eyeball, Endothelial cell density, Axial length (mm).
How is IPCL implanted?
The Implantable Phakic Contact Lens is folded and inserted through a small surgical opening of 2.8 mm at the edge of the cornea and then positioned behind the iris, in front of the crystalline lens (natural human lens). Vision will have likely improved immediately after treatment, and recovery is usually within a day due to the micro incision used to insert the IPCL, In IPCL surgery there is no need of suture.
Contraindication for IPCL
You should not have IPCL Surgery if you
• have a narrow front (anterior) chamber as measured by a special eye test by your doctor, or if your doctor finds that the shape of your eye is not adequate to fit the IPCL.
• are pregnant or nursing
• do not meet the minimum endothelial cell density for your age at the time of implantation as determined by your eye doctor
