Erker’s 1879 has announced the upcoming release of its Fall collection, debuting a wide range of new eyeglasses and sunglasses at Vision Expo West in Palazzo Suite-47-903. The release brings a new story collection to their family-owned brand, known as the Bay Window collection, as well as three new additions to their limited-production Special Reserve series. As a heritage brand, each new frame from their Fall release features design elements relating to their 145 years in the optical business, honoring a legacy passed down through five generations.
22 new handcrafted frames will be released with the new Bay Window collection, including 18 eyeglasses and 4 sunglasses in 4 colors each. The collection was designed in the brand’s distinctive subdued-modern palette, featuring a mix of classic metals and custom color blends. Made to last a lifetime, each piece is handcrafted in a 48-step process with the finest materials possible, including a lightweight titanium, surgical steel, and a durable acetate.
Continuing their tradition of storytelling, the Bay Window collection was inspired by the oldest known piece of their family history. Over two centuries ago, a baby was anonymously left in the nook of a bay window in a small German town, left orphaned and nameless. The child was given the last name Erker, the German word for bay window, to honor the earliest part of their life. To this day, the current generation of Erkers still find inspiration in their family’s past, looking to the intricate details of the historic architecture in their city to inspire their designs. Signifying the collection, each frame features a Bay Window icon on the temple tips, with their year of inception on the opposite side.
An exclusive, limited production series from this family-owned brand, Special Reserve elevates Erker’s 1879 with specially designed insignia and hand-polished silver elements throughout each frame. Special Reserve is set to gain three new acetate eyeglass models this Fall: the Kilpatrick, the Paulos, and the Sedes. Available in four colors each, only 100 of each color is made, never to be made again. Combining generations of expertise, each silver element from Special Reserve represents a piece of the family’s years in St. Louis. From the making of Charles Lindbergh’s famous goggles to their involvement in the 1904 World’s Fair, each little detail was inspired by their ancestors’ experience in the city, where they are still based to this day. Following the design and craft of the frames, each piece is tumbled in a special blend of wood, oil, and other natural materials for a remarkably soft and buttery smooth finish.
