Dentsply Sirona, Henry Schein, and Colgate-Palmolive Co. are the only three companies within the dental industry among the 500 listed by Newsweek for their sustainability footprint this year.
“We hope this ranking serves as a helpful guide for consumers who wish to support businesses serious about sustainability, paving the way for a greener tomorrow,” said Nancy Cooper, Newsweek’s global editor.
After noting that August 2024 was Earth’s hottest August in NOAA’s 175-year climate record, Cooper added, “There is hope. Businesses across the United States are stepping up to combat these challenges.”
Partnering with Plant-A Insights and GIST Impact, Newsweek evaluated companies based on more than 25 parameters across four categories: greenhouse gas emissions, water usage, waste generation, and sustainability data disclosure and commitments.
Ranking based on public data
North Carolina-based Dentsply Sirona and New York-based Henry Schein each received a four-and-a-half-star rating. New York-based Colgate-Palmolive earned a four-star rating and has committed to reducing its environmental impact in line with a 1.5-degree Celsius target. The 1.5°C target, set as an ambitious goal in the 2015 Paris Agreement, commits 195 nations to addressing climate change. The agreement aims to limit the global average surface temperature increase to no more than 1.5°C (2.7°F) above pre-industrial levels by the year 2100.
The same three companies were selected last year; however, Dentsply Sirona received four stars at the time, marking an improvement this year.
The 2025 ranking is based on research and analysis of publicly available sustainability data as of July 31, 2024, focusing on organizations that meet the European Union’s sustainability standards.
