Dalhousie University announced Tuesday that it will offer a new Bachelor of Dental Hygiene Honours program, with classes beginning in September 2025.
The university’s current Diploma in Dental Hygiene will be renamed the Bachelor of Dental Hygiene, while the existing Bachelor of Dental Hygiene will become the Bachelor of Dental Hygiene Honours. “Apart from the names, nothing else will change,” the university said in its announcement.
“The length of the programs, tuition, and the way the programs are delivered will remain the same,” it added.
The changes follow approval from the Maritime Provinces Higher Education Commission, which endorsed the Faculty of Dentistry’s proposal on Jan. 21 in Fredericton.
Dalhousie announced the update one day before the Feb. 12 application deadline for the 2025-26 academic year.
Currently, Canada has five undergraduate dental hygiene programs: The University of Alberta, University of British Columbia, Dalhousie University, the University of Manitoba and George Brown College.
