Autism Eye Magazine has once again been shortlisted for a prestigious journalism award, highlighting the quality of its editorial and its continuing success.

Gillian Loughran: shortlisted as Editor of the Year

The title’s editor, Gillian Loughran, has been shortlisted by the British Society of Magazine Editors (BSME) for the coveted Editor of the Year award in the specialist magazine category.

The BSME previously shortlisted Gillian for an Editor of the Year award in 2020.

Considered the Oscars of UK’s publishing, the BSME Awards see some of the biggest magazines compete for accolades.

They include such titles as Vogue, Time Out, and The Spectator, as well as magazines published by The Guardian, The Times, The Telegraph and BBC Magazines.

Focus on success

This year’s contest will focus the judges’ attention on Autism Eye’s autism coverage and its success in reaching out to its readers.

Gillian has spearheaded the editorial development of the magazine, along with a team of highly qualified national newspaper journalists and contributors.

Over the past 14 years, Autism Eye Magazine has developed to become one of the UK’s most successful specialist magazines.

Gillian received an Editor of the Year award from the Professional Publishers Association (PPA) for a previous magazine editorship.

She has also previously won a Feature Writer of the Year award for investigative journalism.

Meanwhile, Autism Eye Magazine has previously won Best Digital Magazine in the 2014 Magazine Publishing Awards. The publication also won a Media Pioneer Award in 2012.

‘Huge achievement’

In her view: “The shortlisting of Autism Eye for a BSME award is a huge achievement for all the team who work on the title, and the parents and professionals who have contributed their experiences of living with, supporting and representing autistic children and adults.”

The BSME will announce the winners of its awards on 18 November. The event will be a black-tie dinner in the Ballroom at Rosewood London, a luxury hotel near Covent Garden. Staff from Autism Eye will be there.
