The Frustrations of Living with ADHD: What Really Bothers You?

Date:

by Cynthia Hammer, MSW, Author of the book, Living with Inattentive ADHD

I hate when people deny it’s a real issue.

·         I hate that people assume I’m lazy when they have no idea how much effort I put into managing my life.

·         I hate that I need to take medicine.

·         I hate that medicine doesn’t improve all of my symptoms.

·         I hate having a nagging belief that needing medicine makes me inferior.

·         I hate being terrified each time a teacher assigns a project. I know it means nights of little sleep as I struggle to finish the assignment a few hours before it’s due.

·         I hate when people notice that I have lost focus, and they ask me what I’m thinking about.

·         I hate having to plan my every waking moment so I won’t get distracted and mess up something important.

·         I hate having great ideas that will never come to fruition and the hundreds of projects that I’ve never finished.

·         I hate when people tell me to just “try harder.”

·         I hate that an ADHD life isn’t simple or easy.
