CDHA’s new president to continue public recognition of hygienists as ‘primary experts in preventive oral care’

The Canadian Dental Hygienists Association (CDHA) announced in a press release on Wednesday the installation of its new president, Alexandra Sheppard. The decision was made following its annual general meeting on Saturday, Sep. 28.

Sheppard, who has built a 31-year career in dental hygiene, has worked in private practice and post-secondary education. She currently holds the position of Clinical Professor and Comprehensive Care Director (Dental Hygiene) in the Mike Petryk School of Dentistry, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, University of Alberta.

As the new president, Sheppard looks forward to advocating for dental hygienists across Canada, with a focus on advancing the scope of practice in all provinces. In the press release, she expressed her goal to “continue strengthening public recognition of dental hygienists as primary experts in preventive oral care.”

Alexandra Sheppard is the new president of the CDHA.

Sheppard is also committed to enhancing communication between the provincial associations and CDHA.

The CDHA represents over 31,000 dental hygienists across Canada.
