Forensic dentistry plays a crucial role in the identification of victims in tragic events. In the aftermath of the Oct. 7th, 2023, events in Israel, dental professionals were called upon to assist in identifying victims through dental records in case of other methods being unviable. The process of matching dental records to remains is a meticulous and emotionally charged task, requiring both technical expertise and a deep commitment to the families affected.
Dr. Vladi Dvoyris, a reservist in the Israel Defense Forces’ (IDF) Casualty Identification Unit, will share his personal experiences in a memorial session on Oct. 6th. Dr. Dvoyris will highlight the essential role that dental professionals play in not only identifying victims but in restoring their identities, allowing families to begin the process of healing.
The memorial session will also offer perspectives from other prominent figures in the field of dentistry, including Prof. Avi Zini and Prof. Rachel Sarig. This gathering is open to all, providing an opportunity for dental professionals, students, and the broader community to come together in remembrance and reflection.
